What’s in Borrowdale?

Elvish/Swedishpancakes with savorychaffles (crispyegg, cheese and bacon wafflesserved with homemade hollandaise sauce). Originally made in Gondolin, these delicate rolled pancakes inspired the pannkakor,crepe and even thecinnamon roll! The rich hollandaise sauce compliments thelight and crispy texture of the chaffle. One of the scenic places of this area is the tiny hamlet of Watendlath with a small tarn of the same name, a popular place for fishing. The entire hamlet is owned by the National Trust and is managed by tenant farmers. The B5289 road runs down the full length of the valley, and at the southern end crosses the Honister Pass to Buttermere. At the heart of the valley is the village of Rosthwaite, other Borrowdale villages include Stonethwaite, Seatoller, Seathwaite, and Grange. The tasty menu includes hot drinks, bacon butties, soup, toasties, and freshly baked sausage rolls.

The Cave

Borrowdale has its own Parish Council; Borrowdale Parish Council. [1] The civil parish of Borrowdale covers a considerable area around the valley, including the southern half of Derwent Water. It includes the settlements of Grange, Rosthwaite, Seathwaite, Seatoller, Stonethwaite and Watendlath. It lies entirely within the Lake District National Park. Most of the mountains at the head of Borrowdale, including Scafell Pike and Great Gable, are part of the Borrowdale Volcanic Group, a geological development from the Ordovician period.

Borrowdale is within the Copeland UK Parliamentary constituency and the North West England European Parliamentary constituency. Trudy Harrison is the Member of parliament. The elegant dining room also features glass fronted doors which entice guests into the wine tasting cellar that boasts a comprehensive wine list.Set right where the road runs out in the hamlet of Langstrath, the pub was originally a cottage built for the use of local miners and farm workers. Nowadays you can stop off after on your way down from the steep surrounding crags. You - and your dog - will be well seen to with hearty traditional pub meals, including a tasty roast on Sundays.
