About this deal

Ernie Ball artist and YouTube extraordinaire Ryan “Fluff” Bruce has shared an incredibly helpful guide to help you determine which string gauge is right for you. He takes into account a number of different factors, including scale length (Fender Scale [25.5″] or Gibson Scale [24.75″]), tuning, playing style and more. We want to make things even easier for you to find the right set, so we’ve rounded up some helpful images and links to get you all set up. Spark Amp – The amp itself is brilliant, coming with a bunch of great tones and plenty of power with its 50W speaker. But the real magic happens when it is paired with your phone, opening up access to thousands of effects and tones that you can customize to your exact specifications. And best of all? It’s not even that expensive either. Guitars with longer scale lengths put the strings under more tension compared to guitars with shorter scale lengths

Over the past month or so we have talked about Doom Metal extensively. And to be fair, we can probably continue to talk about it for a long time. Doom Metal is one of the only genres of metal that really hasn’t changed too much over the years. Drop C is pretty versatile, and works the same way that Drop D tuning works in theory. The two lowest strings work in tandem to make a one finger power chord. This means you can play faster riffs, easier. I also like that Drop C is a low tuning, while still keeping the guitar in the “mid range” of the mix. It’s heavy, but not too heavy.Huom: Setti ei katkea tmv. jos virität korkeammille vireille, mutta soittomukavuus kärsii bendatessa (oikeastaan kolmoskieltä ei enää siinä kohtaa bendailla). Creating a custom set of single strings allows you to retain tension on the higher strings, while allowing enough twang on the lower strings. Gibson Scale – Single Strings (12, 16, 24, 36, 48, 60) Maximum Voltage Gain: 70 dB Ch. Mic input †’ Main Mix out & Tape out, 80 dB Ch. Mic input †’ Control Room & Phones, 60 dB Ch. Mic input †’ Aux send Power chords will now be played with one finger across the lowest three strings, all on the same fret. This allows you to play a little more fluid, and also a little faster. This also changes how you play scales a little bit, especially if you anchor on the lowest string. A slightly adjusted custom set of single strings allows you to beef up the higher strings, while retaining the size of the lower strings. Can also use a 62 or 64 on the low-E string for added heaviness and tension. Bass Tunings E Standard and Drop D Regular Slinky Bass (50-105)

Crosstalk: Adjacent Input ‰¦-80 dB @ 1KHz (Ch. 1-6) , Input to Output ‰¦-75 dB @ 1KHz (Stereo L/R, Ch. 1-4, Pan: panned hard left or right) This is a popular tuning amongst many guitarists because it is often one of the first “alternate tunings” you ever learn. This is one that we won’t be writing the notes out for, as the only string you are de-tuning is the Low E/Eb. I work with a student who is a fan of Slipknot and decided to set a Reverend Double Agent W in Drop B (B F# B E G# C#) tuning with a set of these Not Even Slinky 12s.Optimal for detuning. Similar to the Skinny Top / Heavy Bottom, but several gauges heavier. Provides a higher-tension feel. Gibson Scale – Power Slinky (11-48) Can't yet say how long they'll keep their fresh zing, as I've just installed them, but given how my experience with these failed to err on the positive side of things, I honestly don't care much about how long they'll last; given how ruined is the E-1st, the shortest the rest of the set will last, the best it is for me, all things considered. I enjoy playing in C standard. While it’s not the most popular of doom metal tunings, for some people the feel of standard tuning just works better for them. Sleep’s Matt Pike tends to favor this tuning. He used it on DOPESMOKER and Holy Mountain.

I set up guitars for a living. The nut slots need to be opened up a bit. The intonation needs to be re adjusted. The truss rod probably needs adjusting. I like to look at tunings like a piece of gear. If you are looking for a new sound, or a new way of writing songs, then sometimes a different guitar pedalmight be the key to finding your new voice. I look at different tunings as a tool, and Drop C can definitely change the way you write a riff… or even a whole album! Choosing the right string gauge is about getting the right amount of tension. You don’t want too much tension or it’ll be hard to play, or too little so that the strings go out of tune easily and are prone to fret buzz. So tuning down this far might sound really cool, but you need to prepare! Your strings for Drop C are going to be much different than the ones that you use for standard. They definitely need to be a heavier gauge to compensate since you’re going down. Lighter gauges used for standard tuning will probably be pretty floppy. Drop B is pretty darn low. In fact, on the frequency scale you are heading into bass guitar territory. Drop B works just like any of the other drop tunings. I would say that this is primarily for a rhythm guitarist, as doing bends gets a little harder since you have upped the string gauge.

Using the 11-48 set with the low-E string swapped out for a 52 gives you all of the low-end chug that you need while still feeling like standard tuning on the higher strings. Gibson Scale – Beefy Slinky (11-54)

Whatever guitar you play or style of music you're into there's a set of strings for you. Still feels slinky, but retains a good amount of tension. Fender Scale (Option B) – Beefy Slinky (11-54) This gauge is perfect for people looking to be able to chug on the heavier strings in Drop C, but also retain some elasticity in the treble strings for solos. This is a slightly lighter gauge, and that makes bends easier. Some people may find the lower strings a little too “floppy” for their tastes. Especially with a shorter scale guitar, like a Les Paul.BIAS FX 2 – If you want to run your guitar through your PC or Mac, BIAS FX 2 is one of the best ways to develop and create amazing-sounding tones. BIAS FX is an amp and effects simulator and it is one of the best in the business. Inexpensive and perfect for jamming and recording, BIAS FX 2 is one of my favorite amp sims for Mac and PC. Drop C is the whole guitar tuned down a full step to D standard, with the heaviest string tuned down another step . From highest string to lowest, the tuning is: We will take an in-depth look at each tuning, and describe how it works. That way you can decide for yourself which one is the tuning for you. Take note, that the lower you go, you will have to change your string gauge. If the change in strings is drastic then you may need to setup your guitar.
