For women, as much as for men – perhaps even more so, given they were actively trying to counter hundreds of years of artistic airbrushing of their bodies – naked self-portraits became concerned with conveying uncomfortable truths about what it is to have a body. The pervasiveness of the "nude selfie" is just the latest step in our ever-evolving relationship with the naked image.
