About this deal
All the emphasis is shifted to the chassis, whose fans are tested in three states: 400rpm, 800rpm and maximum rpm. Our test PC was drawing 450W at the wall socket with 76W going to the Ryzen 5 and 255W going to the RX 6800 XT graphics card. By launching the Torrent Nano and Torrent Compact, the latter of which we are reviewing here, the company aims to elevate this line to the same status by offering variants in three different sizes. So imagine our delight when Fractal Design announced the Torrent Compact which promises more of the 180mm goodness in a smaller chassis. But that case is much more restrictive, in that it only supports Mini-ITX motherboards, while the Torrent Compact claims to support boards up to E-ATX.
Torrent Compact Reviews, Pros and Cons - TechSpot Fractal Design Torrent Compact Reviews, Pros and Cons - TechSpot
Since we reviewed the original Fractal Torrent last year we have included our results from that case as well as the new Compact model, in part because we don’t yet have any other results from our new test rig. As you can see in our chart, the 180 mm fans on the Torrent Compact do a great job at minimizing sound while providing more airflow than a 120 or 140 mm spinner would. Any chassis promising maximum airflow is ultimately going to be judged on its ability to keep components cool. There’s ample room in the power supply chamber at the top of the case to hide a majority of the cables. Letting the GPU run at 75% fan speed enables it to maintain its power target while sticking to one set reasonable fan speed, so that the temperature is the only variable.I also like that Fractal Design kept the ARGB strip on the power supply compartment, it just adds that little bit of flare to the case. Fractal Design Torrent Compact White TG Clear Tint Mid Tower
If you want to use a large motherboard, you should opt for the larger original Torrent, or another large case instead. We decided to follow Fractal Design's guide and move the 180mm fans to the floor of the case and then install a 280mm AIO in the front.Because the graphics card we’re using is long, a clean, swooping air path is interrupted due to the slim distance between the front fan and GPU. There are plenty of airflow-focused cases with front panels composed entirely of mesh that could double as a bee-keeping mask.
